Lift Garage
From minister to mechanic: the story of The Lift Garage and lessons learned. Cathy Heying will share her experience of leaving church work to attend automotive school at the age of 38 with a vision of a nonprofit repair shop. After graduating from Dunwoody, Heying opened the Lift Garage in a vacant bay at a car wash in South Minneapolis. Unlike most garages, The Lift is set up to operate as a nonprofit, with grants and donations covering the bulk of each customer’s repair costs. Since that time, The Lift has grown to be a $2 million organization serving thousands of customers each year.
